Heiner je živoucí kapitolou vídeňské cukrářské kultury – nejstarší dvorní cukrárna ve městě, dodnes v rodinných rukou, s noblesou, která nepůsobí muzeálně, ale přirozeně současně. Právě zde se zrodila Kardinalschnitte (1933) a stále se podává s lehkostí, jež spojuje tradici monarchie s dnešním vídeňským rytmem: dopolední snídaně, decentní slané drobnosti i poctivé teplé moučníky. This place is packed, we walked upstairs and found the table and the waitress was very good and efficient in taking our order. The cake was so good but the lemonade was very refreshing and surprisingly went very well with the cake. Don't be discouraged by the chaos, it is worth the effort.
This terrific place is just up from St Stephen’s cathedral in Vienna and has traditional Austrian cakes and delicious coffee. The staff are all ages and dressed in traditional clothes which looks great. There is an upstairs section which is marvellous and has all the same fare as downstairs. As a first time tourist to Vienna, I almost didn’t eat the Sachertorte as there’s so many reviews at famous coffee houses about how dry or not special it is. But after much reading, I found my way here and it made me like this cake a lot - the cake is tasty, apricot jam is lovely and you need to have the dollop of whip cream to balance it all out.
